Applying For a Credit Card With Bad Credit

Spread the love

If you have credit card for poor credit, applying for a credit card is a great way to rebuild your credit and begin using it responsibly. But there are some things you need to know before you apply.

How to reset credit score?

First, know your credit score. You can get your free credit report from all three major credit bureaus.

Then, make a list of the types of cards you want and compare each one against your credit report to determine whether it matches your credit needs.

Next, find a card that has low fees and a low interest rate. Be sure to shop around for the best deal, as one late payment can negatively impact your credit.

Third, don’t apply for too many cards in a short period of time. Each application triggers a hard inquiry that can ding your credit score by a few points.

Fourth, don’t use any new accounts until you have built a strong credit history. If you have a good mix of different types of credit, including revolving and installment accounts, your credit scoring formulas will be better able to assess your overall financial health.

Fifth, if you’re not sure how much debt you have, it’s best to pay down your existing balances. Your credit utilization ratio (the amount of money you owe compared to the available credit on your account) is a key factor in how your credit is viewed, so if your balances are too high, you might struggle to qualify for a good card.
